Silence

Anna

Sometimes it’s hard for me to speak.
The words’re caught in my throat.
It seems my mouth needs a little tweak
to get back on the right road.

But even when the words are proper;
my voice is still quite small…
I’m treated like a silly pauper
and I’m never heard at all.

The people all around me shout.
They’re laughing; having fun.
And all I do is sit; left out
and wait until they’re done.

But even when I have my chance,
and they finish their little game…
I stand so stiff while they all dance…
And I’m quiet all the same.

I look upon the stars each night
and wish for just one thing.
I want to turn this poem I write
into a voice, my everything.

And one day I do know I will
stand and speak these words.
But for these little moments still,
I’m silent like youngling birds.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Haven't seen you all in a while. Yes, this poem is a little about me, because I have always been quite quiet and weak willed. And even though I'm changing, I felt the need to write this :) Also, I know there are a few awkward wording and some things aren't on beat... Yeah, I didn't put a lot of effort into it, but ehhh. Anyway, thank you, everyone. And I know it's a little late to say this, but Happy Christmas and hope you had an amazing New Year of 2012.

Well, having excused yourself for putting insufficient time and effort into this excellent reflection, how shall we reckon you? Well done, thou once fledgling poetess, thou hast graduated, methinks, when thou canst pen off so easily and effortlessly such a fine composition. Impressive. While it whispers as an expose of its authoress, yet it aptly expresses what countless of us feel likewise. There are the quieter folk, who have no less intelligence than the vivacious, yet lack either the opportunity or gumption to face it. Aye, with time you may well learn to conquer it, and doubtless will find confidence coming naturally with maturity, as I have, yet this stands as a very beautiful expression of a lovely young lady. I admire it and quite enjoyed it.
Aye I hope you enjoyed your New Year's Day 2012, I myself am infrequently here likewise, hanging out elsewhere (it is very quiet here since sometime last year, seems). Have a great rest of the year!
