Tuesday: Three Poetry Markets
Poetry gets short shrift in most magazines aimed at working writers. Legitimate poetry markets can be hard to find, and the most well-known are heavily inundated with submissions.
We”re going to help. Starting today, every Tuesday Poems and Poetry will feature three poetry markets to which you can submit your poems, along with links to the submission guidelines and any pertinent information on the publication.
Hanging Loose Magazine has been in publication since 1966. The editors are proud of having published many first books, including the first full collections by Sherman Alexie, Kimiko Hahn, D. Nurkse, Jack Agüeros, Elinor Nauen, Joanna Fuhrman, Maggie Nelson, Indran Amirthanayagam, and Beth Bosworth, among others. Some of the other writers published by HL are Wilma Elizabeth McDaniel, Frances Phillips, Harvey Shapiro, Jayne Cortez, Ron Overton, Helen Adam, Paul Violi, Charles North, Ha Jin, Morton Marcus, Maureen Owen, Donna Brook, Yukihide Hartman, Jack Anderson and Ed Friedman. Their submission guidelines state: While we hope we will always be open to new ideas, it seems unlikely that we will develop an interest in formula romance or sing-song verse.
