The Threepenny Review is one of the premier markets for literary work. It”s been called the country”s best literary magazine. Published quarterly in March, June, September and December, Threepenny publishes 4-6 poems in each issue and pays $200 per poem. They don”t accept submissions during the autumn months, but are wide open now and welcome unsolicited poetry. For more information, see their submissions page
Guidelines
The Modern Review is a new literary magazine that prizes literature above business, in their own words. They publish four times a year in September, December, March and June and accept poetry year round. In addition to poetry, the Modern Review also publishes criticism, commentary and review, for which the editors pay $150 for chosen pieces. From their guidelines:
-The Modern Review is not a “market”.
-No attachments.
-No simultaneous submissions.
-No more than one submission per quarter.
-All electronic submissions must include the submission genre, followed by your name, in the subject line.
-Brief biographical notes should accompany submissions; a length of three lines is standard.
-We reserve the right to publish correspondence.
Poetry 3-8 original, unpublished poems in the body of an e-mail. For complex formats, query the editors before sending an attachment.
