3 Poetry Markets
This week”s three poetry markets are each regional literary magazines that have grown in readership and reputation over the course of their lives. While each focuses on writers in its respective region, they accept submissions from all over.
Blue Mesa Review is published by the University of New Mexico”s creative writing program. Created in 1981, Blue Mesa Review is committed to publishing regional writers of fiction and poetry alongside national names and talented newcomers. They accept manuscripts year round but warn that summer submissions may not be read until August.
Blue Mesa Review is currently accepting submissions for Issue 18, which has no theme. For more details on submissions, check their submissions page.
Asheville Poetry Review is a biannual literary journal that publishes 160–200 pages of poems, interviews, translations, essays, historical perspectives and book reviews. Since its inception, Asheville Poetry Review has published over 600 new and established writers from 14 different countries, including Robert Bly, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Joy Harjo, Gary Snyder, Sherman Alexie, Eavan Boland, R. S. Thomas, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Fred Chappell, Ciaran Carson and Colette Inez. From its first regional issue, Asheville Poetry Review has grown into an international publication with distribution in 35 states and 5 European countries.
Deadlines are January 15 and July 15. Please send 3–6 poems of any length or style with a self-addressed stamped envelope and biographical information to:

Eleventh Muse is the publication of Poetry West, one of the oldest continuing poetry readings in the Pikes Peak region of the country. Established in 1982, The Eleventh Muse has published such notable poets as United States Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, Colorado Poet Laureate Mary Crow, Pattiann Rogers, Timothy Murphy, Roger Mitchell, Jake Adam York, and David Keplinger. The journal, with a color cover and perfect binding, is published annually in late winter/early spring by Poetry West. The Eleventh Muse accepts submissions year round, and prefers email submissions.
