One poem that expresses gratitude to others who have been kind is Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s “Sonnet XLI:”

Sometimes one is not so much thankful to any one person as he is to fate in general, such as Ogden Nash in “No Doctor’s Today, Thank You:”
