The most beautiful word in Spanish
A year ago, the British Council organized a poll to find out which word is the most beautiful of the English language. Over 40 thousand people voted and “Mother” was the winner.
A similar poll has been developed now, but in Spanish. Taller de Escritores (Writer”s Workshop) organized it and the results are in.
“Amor” won the competition. What does it mean? It means love.
“Madre” (mother) ranked #8 and “Mamá” (Mom) #7. There are more similarities in both rankings, showing us that people from around the world aren”t that different.
Also, just like the British poll, over 40 thousand people voted. Amor had 3364 votes.
The second place was for “libertad” (freedom) with 1551 votes, and “paz” (peace) with 1181 votes. Both words have a lot of meaning, specially in Latin America.
