A burden for souls

(by Connie Campbell Bratcher)

Our hearts are heavily burdened
For souls in a faraway place,
Who've never heard the preaching
Of God's amazing grace;
But, a message is in the sunset,
The moon and stars above,
Declaring the creator's goodness,
Mercy, grace and love.
A native in a distant land
Told a missionary who came:
"I know the One of Whom you speak,
I just didn't know His name."
Nature itself bears witness
Of God's mighty power and Truth,
As the Holy Spirit, Himself, teaches,
All men are without excuse.
An even greater burden
Is for those who hear the Word,
And go their sinful way
As though they'd never heard.
Having ears to hear, they hear not
What the Spirit would say,
Rejecting Christ the Saviour,
Refusing to bow and pray.
It's a greater burden we carry,
For it's a greater price they'll pay
When they meet the Lord of Glory
On that Judgment Day.

Father, help us to obey the great commission
Taking the message to all,
May we be sensitive to Your lead,
And hear Your Spirit's call.

"...today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts."
"...blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it."
(Heb.4:7; Luke 11:28)
